Hardly surprising really given the world we live in \u2013 so I should probably cut myself some slack. What I do find helpful is noting certain things that indicate it\u2019s time to log off, get my yoga mat out, or just slow down and feel for a moment. Usually the journey is from noticing I\u2019m not noticing, to noticing discomfort, and eventually &#8230; noticing the relief in coming home. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">So what are the red lights? Here are some indicators of (temporary) disembodiment:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I notice that I\u2019m not noticing my body (true as a definition of state disembodiment but let\u2019s start there) <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I\u2019m brutalising myself with overwork, treating myself as an industrial machine <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">My breathing is tight and irregular <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">My body aches from tension (especially back, shoulders and belly) or is exhausted. This can feel like coming back to a resentful angry child who has been left alone too long <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I\u2019m rushing. It is possible to be embodied fast, as in martial arts, but rushing has its own feel <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I have a hot \u201celectric\u201d feeling in my head and face. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I\u2019m eating low quality food, especially when not hungry <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I\u2019m hurting myself in subtle or less subtle ways in order to feel <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I have numbness to strong stimuli like loud music, strong tastes etc <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">There\u2019s a subtle overall feeling of contraction and limitation in the whole body, like being in a cage; loss of natural expansiveness <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I\u2019m ungrateful <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I\u2019m treating others as sex or success objects \u2013 means to ends, not ends in themselves <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Alcohol consumption may be an issue for others too<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Thank you, AnTonya, for the idea for this post.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Even as embodiment professional, I find myself losing touch with my body regularly.
