He<\/span> <span lang= \"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">trained as a historian at the Universities of <a href= \"https:\/\/www.worc.ox.ac.uk\/\">Oxford<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href= \"https:\/\/www.uib.no\/ahkr\">Bergen<\/a>, and taught for many years at the&nbsp;<a href= \"https:\/\/huss.aucegypt.edu\/academics\/departments\/history\">American University in Cairo<\/a>. At Aarhus, he is the coordinator of the <a href=\"http:\/\/icsru.au.dk\/\">Arab and Islamic Studies Research Network (ICSRU)<\/a>. He is also the chair of the&nbsp;<a href= \"http:\/\/nsmes.org\/\">Nordic Society for Middle Eastern Studies<\/a>&nbsp;and president of the&nbsp;<a href= \"http:\/\/ensie.site\/\">European Network for the Study of Islam and Esotericism<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">Mark&#8217;s research focuses on junctions for the transfer of religions and traditions in the late pre-modern and modern periods. His most recent book is <a href= \"https:\/\/www.penguin.co.uk\/books\/321399\/traditionalism-by-sedgwick-mark\/9780241487921\"> Traditionalism: The Radical Project for Restoring Sacred Order<\/a>&nbsp;(London: Pelican; New York: Oxford University Press, 2023).
